The Galloway Theatre Company is excited to present the family-friendly musical Freaky Friday! When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again before the mom’s wedding. Based on the 1972 book of the same name by Mary Rodgers and its 1976 and 2003 film adaptations, this musical is a hit with parents and kids alike and lets everyone see what a day would be like in someone else's shoes. |

I Can, I Will
Fall 2020

A virtual, but very REAL experience. Theater around the country and around the world had to pivot this year. Our decision to do our Fall Theatre Production fully online allowed for exploration into devising original work, learning new technical skills, practicing collaboration, and asking our students to make strong creative choices based on their passions and interests, all while providing an equitable and consistent “stage” for in person and CL students. In this season of innovation, introspection, revolution and reckoning, what better time to realize that we CAN, we WILL, make a new brand of theatrical experience. Check out our timeline below to read more about how this production came to fruition! EMMA! A Pop Musical
Spring 2021
Emma, a senior at Highbury Prep, is certain she knows what’s best for her classmates’ love lives, and is determined to find the perfect boyfriend for shy sophomore Harriet by the end of the school year. But will Emma’s relentless matchmaking get in the way of finding her own happiness? Based on Jane Austen’s classic novel Emma, this sparkling new musical features the hit songs of legendary girl groups and iconic female singers -- with favorites like “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun,” “How Will I Know,” “Brave,” and “Roar.” Girl power has never sounded so good! Galloway’s unique production has been pre-filmed -- both on Zoom and in-person -- and edited by professionals before livestreaming the finished product for our audience. In many ways this final product chronicles our wild and wooly Hybrid and Hyflex year. Expect to see actors in real houses, in front of virtual backgrounds, dancing through Galloway buildings and lobbies, improvising technological effects, using cool editing tricks, executing daring drone camera shots, and many other creative solutions to a year full of challenges and triumphs. With 20 actors, 3 stage managers, 12 technicians, 12 band members, 2 editors, and 6 faculty directors and Designers, this is a true collaborative creation. https://www.gallowayschool.org/arts/theatre/emma https://vimeo.com/548893842 (password: harriet) |
A Midsummer Night's Dream
Fall 2021
Young lovers decide to escape the big city, where adults tell them who to marry and how to live. In desperation they run to the wild and seemingly uncomplicated woods… But it turns out that no one is safe from the magic of nature --- where fairies play tricks of the heart, true love gets tangled, and buffoonish actors transform into monsters… The magic of the forest seems to change everyone, even the ones who make the magic themselves… So, come dream with us, get lost in the brambles, let your hair down, and succumb to the spells of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”… You might just be transformed yourself! This show promises to be an exciting, dynamic, and immersive way to welcome our community back into our theater this Fall. We've created a playful, darkly magical, imaginative and interactive production that will be accessible and stimulating for all audience members. With 20 Upper Learning actors, 10 Upper Learning backstage crew, and a collaborative faculty/directing & design team, this is a fantastic joining of the artistic minds of many! |
The Day the Crayons Quit:
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Family Series April 2022
What if your crayons each had their own personality? On April 24, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra used their instruments to give each crayon color, played by a Galloway student, a voice along with words from Drew Daywalt's The Day the Crayons Quit. We had a blast seeing the following Galloway students (and EL associate teacher Dalton Day!) in their colorful roles! |
